Skateboard Basic

You don’t have to be a pro to help someone skateboard.

Skateboard Basic gives parents, volunteers, and anyone curious about coaching the foundation to teach skateboarding with confidence. No experience required.

Who this is for

Maybe your kid just got their first board and you have no idea how to help them. Maybe you volunteer with a school or after-school program and you want to help when the skateboards come out. Maybe you have wondered what it would take to teach lessons or coach someday, and you want a low-pressure way to find out. Skateboard Basic was built for all of you.

What you get

  • How to Teach Skateboarding 1 and 2. Our core teaching courses, broken into clear, doable steps anyone can follow.
  • Skate Safe. The safety framework every USSEA member learns, so you teach good habits from the very first session.
  • The Learn to Skate video series. See the exact progressions you will be guiding, even if you have never skated yourself.

Everything is online and self-paced. Start tonight and go at your own speed.

What is Skate Safe?

Skate Safe is not a rulebook you memorize and forget. It is a shared language. The same five principles guide skateboarders, coaches, instructors, and PE teachers across USSEA. When you learn it, you and your skater are speaking the same language about making good choices on a board. That is what keeps the fun going and prevents serious injury.

A first step for everyone

Skateboard Basic is a membership, not a certification. It is also the natural place to start. If you find you love teaching, this same foundation carries straight into Instructor Certification or Competitive Coach Certification whenever you are ready.
